A late-night head-on wreck in Orange County left 2 women from southeast Texas dead in Orange County on HWY 62.
Brittnie Eldridge Adaway, 23, was a Nederland resident driving a Kia on Texas Highway 62 when the wreck occurred. According to local reports, Sheila Lavalle, 59, of Orange, was driving a 2014 Honda passenger vehicle when she veered into oncoming traffic and struck Adaway’s vehicle head-on. Adaway was pronounced dead on the scene, and Lavalle died later that night at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
The investigation is still ongoing.
Because police are still gathering information to piece together what happened, they are unable to say what caused the accident at this time. While it is tempting to blame the driver for common causes such as texting, intoxication, and speeding, we must recognize that other possibilities exist. Jumping to conclusions is not fair to any of the parties involved. For all we know, the accident could have been caused by a mechanical problem, dangerous roads, or a lack of visibility. Because there are so many variables that could be at play, police must conduct a thorough investigation, carefully examining even the most minor details that may appear insignificant on the surface.
