On August 9th, emergency services responded to a fiery collision along a section of U.S. 75 in Grayson County’s Sherman. Six vehicles, including three 18-wheelers, were reportedly involved in the chain-reaction accident that occurred in front of Shulman’s Movie Bowl Grille, just south of the FM 1417 intersection, on the northbound lanes of the interstate. At least one of the 18-wheelers caught on fire. Thankfully, there were no reported casualties, U.S. 75’s northbound lanes were shut down. It took several hours to clean the debris before it was fully reopened.
Accidents can happen for many reasons. While authorities cannot say yet what led to this crash, consideration should be given to road conditions and construction zones, driver inattention, mechanical issues, and even whether speed or alcohol was involved. There are so many possible causes, it would be unfair to try and guess what led to this accident. Since this was a multi-vehicle crash involving a vehicle catching on fire, it will take an extensive investigation to reconstruct how the wreck happened. A critical issue will be preserving the evidence quickly before it is gone or damaged.
